The Next New Thing
A useful new media for Baruch students would be a new app such as the Facebook but for students. This would be like a social media app for only Baruch students that would allow them to connect and communicate with each other. The app would be right at the palm of their hands and it would allow them to communicate with professors as well. Also from this app, we would be able to get the Baruch academic calender as well as other necessary Baruch announcements. Also students would be able to put up questions or comments they have about certain classes. Students and professors would be able to post up pictures and videos through this app.

I think this would be very effective. It is a lot different from emailing your classmates and peers just because, I feel like social networking sites have a greater appeal and it's a great way to stay in the loop. It could involve student life, and other amenities on campus, job postings, and just normal communication between students.
ReplyDeleteAn interactive calender that would show dates for deadlines, exams (to include finals) and cancellations would be useful. currently, we need to go through a final matrix, emails and a cumbersome blackboard. and the information is not always clear or correct. A one stop personal academic calender that is automatically populated with class specific dates/times for courses the student is enrolled in with be a great time management tool. But, nothing will help procrastination.
ReplyDeleteI really think this would be a great idea. Also being able to have an academic calender on your phone would be very helpful for student. This way students would be aware of important deadlines which are approaching. I also think that being able to make appointments would be very helpful! For example, there's always a line for academic advisement but from this application you can easily make an appointment. You can also make appointments for the writing center, SACC, and other events which would require appointments. Being able to integrate the happenings of Baruch College in one application is a great achievement. This idea is certainly worth looking into.
ReplyDeleteI also believe Baruch has an application for the iPhone because I saw it once on my friends phone. They should also consider launching the application on the Android operating system.
Apps for mobile are great idea because student will be more willing to look at them when they see the app rather then going through all those Baruch web pages. Apps are one main factor that has push the sales of smart phone so I think it is very important to have one.
ReplyDeleteI think all your suggestions are very helpful. This app would be great for students so that they could keep up with communication with professors and classmates and would be a great tool for Baruch to consider working on. It would be awesome if Baruch would get a group of students to come up with this idea and collaborate and make a competition so that we can get this technology sooner, rather than later. :)
